Natales Prepares for the “Fiords Plunge”
A key meeting was held between the organizers of the "Fiords Plunge", local tourism, commerce, and crafts associations, and the Municipality of Natales to coordinate details for the upcoming edition of this unique event in Magallanes.

Where is the event held?
The Fjords Plunge takes place on the waterfront of Puerto Natales, right in front of the Costa Australis Hotel, in the Magallanes Region.
What time should I arrive?
The event officially begins at 2:00 PM with music, entertainment, and presentations. The plunge itself usually takes place between 3:00 and 4:00 PM, depending on the final lineup of performers.
What should I wear?
- Before: Only warm, comfortable clothing.
- During: Swimsuit or light clothing + sandals or shoes (mandatory).
- After: Dry, warm clothes and a large towel or quick-dry poncho to change into.
What are the requirements to participate?
You must be officially registered, accept and sign the online waiver, be of legal age (or have legal authorization if underage), and be in good health for cold-water exposure.

How do I get to Puerto Natales from Punta Arenas?
You can take an intercity bus (Bus Sur or Buses Fernández - approx. 3 to 3.5 hours) or drive via Route 9 North.
What is the recommended clothing for the plunge?
- Mandatory: sandals or shoes.
- Swimsuit, light clothes, or themed costume.
- Dry, warm clothes for after.
What if I have health issues?
If you have heart conditions or other medical issues affected by cold, participation is not recommended. An IST ambulance will be available on-site for emergencies.
Can minors participate?
Yes, but they must be accompanied by their legal guardian, who must complete the online waiver at www.chapuzondelosfiordos.com and supervise them at all times.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. The Fjords Plunge is a free event, open to the community and visitors.
Can I swim far from shore?
No. The plunge is a quick dip close to the shore. Swimming further or staying too long in the water is not allowed.
Can I bring personal belongings?
Yes, but it’s recommended to come with someone who can watch your things. No official storage service will be available.
Are there any restrictions to participate?
- No participation under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- You must be officially registered.
- All trash must be taken with you; leave no waste behind.
What’s the connection between the Fjords Plunge and ATWS?
